Small Things Add Up - In Saving and Giving

In true “in it together” spirit, many people are wanting to step forward to offer help during the COVID-19 pandemic. Before jumping in, take time to consider the best way to make the greatest impact while staying safe:

  1. Help an elderly neighbour you know by offering to pick up groceries and other essentials to save them the stress of doing it themselves.

    1. Help the poor and homeless by supporting organizations like Back Door Mission for the Relief of Poverty in Oshawa. They need volunteers and donations. Here's a link to their site where you can donate. Here's their facebook page with more details about how you can help.

    2. Help feed those in need by donating to your local food bank. Kate Korgemagi at Simcoe Hall Settlement House confirmed that cash donations are preferred as it's safer than handling food items and can be used more efficiently. Here's how you can help Simcoe Hall Food Bank.

    3. Help your local hospital by making a donation. As a board member and a doctor’s kid, I support Oshawa’s Lakeridge Health and would appreciate your support. Here's a link to my fundraising page.

    4. Help a women’s shelter like The Denise House who supports those in vulnerable situations made worse since COVID 19. Here's how you can help Denise House do their very important work.

    5. Thank a frontline worker risking their lives to help others by nominating them to receive a free gift box from Durham’s own fine bakery, Eat My Shortbread. [update as of July 2020] This wonderful program was a fantastic success.

Donate $20 or more and you’ll not only be helping those in desperate need right now, but you’ll also get the satisfaction of doing something for the greater good and I must point out, you’ll gain tax benefits, too.
